Program Backlog

Short Tip: A board with the Backlog items being developed for each product in the program.

What is it?

A Kanban board that reflects the Backlog items that are being developed for each product in the program. The board is formed by the products’ epics and the Backlog items (e.g., user stories for agile development). These items are arranged in columns indicating their status.

Why use it?

Using a Program Backlog facilitates identifying ongoing actions in each listed product; it therefore identifies interdependencies and helps in the planning of releases.

How to use it?

The board is directly designed by the Program Leader, the Product Owner (PIM-Go© Agile) and the Initiative Leader (PIM-Go© Hybrid) for each product. If it is in digital format, the board can be automatically fed from the boards used by the Development Teams.

The Program Backlog’s goal is to provide a comprehensive view of what is being developed within the program. It has the epics of each product in the leftmost column and Backlog items (e.g., user stories for agile development) in the “To Do”, “Doing” and “Done” columns.
