Kickoff Meeting – Agile Model
Short Tip: The event for the beginning of product maturing.
What is it?
It is a meeting conducted by the Product Owner in order to update all participants on the solution that was chosen in the Conception stage.
Why use it?
The Developers who didn’t participate in the Conception stage should be updated on what has already been discussed before the solution was defined.
In addition, especially with newly-formed teams, it is an opportunity for people to get to know each other and present their viewpoints.
How to use it?
The meeting should be conducted by the Product Owner as the one representing the customer’s voice. The presentation should emphasize the characteristics of the product’s target audience, the problem that is being worked on and the reason for the conceived solution.
One of the most effective tools for the Kickoff meeting is the Canvas designed in the Conception stage (Project-Value Canvas or Lean Canvas) and the Product View Canvas.
The meeting has a maximum length of 60 minutes, and the following dynamic is suggested:
- Presentation by the Product Owner and a brief introduction of each member attending the meeting;
- If there is a specific product sponsor, the opportunity or challenge can be briefly presented;
- The Product Owner presents the artifacts, always with an emphasis on the problem to be solved and the value to be generated for the target audience;
- The Product Owner presents the working method to be adopted in this Maturing stage;
- A time for members to interact about the proposed artifacts, and for capturing perceptions that can enrich the work to be done.
