Short Tip: The milestone of approval of the solution for the beginning of its building process.

What is it?

Also known as gate, this milestone marks the formal approval of the Conception stage for the beginning of its building process through the Maturing stage.

Why use it?

Because the stages related to solution building involve a significant mobilization of personnel and resources, which are usually limited, it is relevant to follow a process of approval by the project sponsor to carry on with the initiative.

How to use it?

The approval procedure is highly dependent on the organization’s internal structure. In contexts with little bureaucracy, emailing or pitching the solution to the manager responsible for allocating resources may be sufficient. In others, however, it may be necessary to defend your solution before a committee, and the allocation of resources will depend on comparisons with solutions from other products or programs.

Whatever the case, the result should be:

• To continue with the solution into the maturing stage, or
• Not to continue with the solution right now, meaning that it should be discarded, temporarily interrupted or return to the Conception stage for reassessment or detailing.
